Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People
with Craig Coffman

In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. Learn to play piano the way professionals do-using chords. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM you will be able to sit at your piano or keyboard at home and take this course with no pressure at all. And since this course includes an online book and online follow up video lessons, you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own.
An optional periodic online question and answer session is also included. A recording of the class is included as well. The course is partly lecture/demonstration and partly hands on instruction.
Topics include:
- How chords work in a song
- How to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it
- How to form the three main types of chords
- How to handle different keys and time signatures
- How to avoid “counting”
- How to simplify over 12,000 complex chords
Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People

Have you ever wanted to learn the guitar but simply find it difficult to find the time? In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it.
This interactive crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able to sit at home with your guitar and take this class without any pressure at all. And since the class includes an online book and online follow-up video lessons, you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own.

Class limited to 25 students. For ages 13+.

- How chords work in a song
- How to form the three main types of chords
- How to tune your guitar
- Basic strumming patterns
- How to buy a good guitar (things to avoid)
- How to play along with simple tunes
Introduction to Improvisation

Dennis Price, founder and director of Capital City Improv, brings 24 years of improv experience to this introduction class, meant to introduce students to the basic foundations of improv. No experience needed. Positive attitude is a must! Learn the techniques that help create something wonderful, right on the spot!

Dennis Price has been fascinated with improvisation since he was a kid and watched his first episode of Second City TV. He saw his first Second City Improv show in 1994 and fell in love. He lived in Chicago for three years, studying improv all over the city, and in 2003 moved to Maine full time to perform and direct around the state. In 2012, Capital City Improv was born in Readfield, Maine, and Dennis and his troupe of comedians and improvisers have been performing in and around the state of Maine and beyond. He is excited to teach this Intro class for Augusta Adult Education.

MaineGeneral's Harm Reduction Program
with Lauren Hunt, MSPH

MaineGeneral's Harm Reduction Program leads a training and conversation on Overdose Response and Narcan Administration. The presentation will begin discussing what harm reduction means, and what opioids are, before identifying what an opioid overdose looks like. The training will then discuss steps for responding to an overdose, and close with a conversation of the Good Samaritan Law. Attendees are invited to ask any questions and/or share experiences throughout. Every attendee will be offered a Narcan kit in addition to education materials to leave the class with.

Fall Nature Arts Series
with Shalimar Chasse`

Participants will walk the fields and trails among among Augusta's beautiful Parks, collect nature findings, take photographs, and do some field study sketches.
They will return to the education center building to continue creating studies of their findings and photographs.
Media specific techniques including watercolor, charcoal, conte, and multi-grade pencils will be available for those wishing to learn a new skill..
Unless it's pouring rain, this workshop will take place rain or shine. A rescheduling if inclement weather is possible.

Studio materials will be available from the Instructor for an additional fee, based on need, costs will range $3.50-7.50/class.
Shalimar Chassé of Create Wellness KV ME has been teaching public school art for almost 30 years. She was awarded Maine State Art Educator of the Year in 2009. She grew up in Auburn and lives with her husband and their two dogs in east Augusta. Beginning in 2014, she facilitated a community arts program at the Buker Center Augusta. In 2020, BSA (Buker Studio Arts) moved to the Viles Arboretum and assumed the new name KVC (Kennebec Valley Community) Arts. This year-round program has been running for almost 10 years. Shalimar is a lover of the Maine outdoors and enjoys sharing nature and arts with the Augusta and surrounding communities. She is well versed in a breadth of media types and has a special interest in choice-based art education.
